MISSION STATEMENT

We are dedicated to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school at work, and in their communities.

WE BELIEVE

As part of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the Million Mom March Chapters believe that:

  • all Americans have the right to be safe from gun violence in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, and places of work and worship.
  • all children have the right to grow up in environments free from the threat of gun violence.
  • gun violence is a public health crisis that harms not only the physical, but also the spiritual, social, and economic health of our families and communities.
  • the availability and lethality of guns make death or severe injury more likely in domestic violence, criminal activity, suicide attempts, and unintentional shootings.
  • it is possible to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by gun violence with reasonable, common sense policy.

Why We March

We March to Halt the Assault on our families, our safety, our civil rights and our gun laws.

We March because since our first march in 2000, 120,000 people have been killed by a firearm in America, 13,000 of them children and teens

We March to call on Congress to renew and strengthen the Assault Weapons Ban, to hold gun manufacturers accountable for their products, to require background checks on all gun purchases, to reinstate the 5-day Brady waiting period for all gun purchases, and to incorporate safety standards into gun design.

We March because we believe that the public awareness created by our 2000 event helped reduce the number of children killed by gunfire in a year by 30% -- but with the current assault on our minimal gun laws, we fear that number will rise once again.

We March to create an America where all people are safe from gun violence.
